COCOCHOCO Onyx Application – Shine with Beautifully Straightened Hair

Professional care that you can enjoy in the comfort of your home

Onyx isn't for everyone – it's for those who won't settle for average. If you recognise yourself in the following points, you've just found your new hair ritual:

  • You crave lasting results: You don't want a treatment that washes out after a month. You want hair that stays straight and healthy until the next regrowth.
  • You're done with waiting: No more babysitting a 72-hour no-wash, no-ponytail window. You want freedom right after leaving the salon.
  • You seek maximum comfort: You have sensitive eyes or nose and want a procedure without stinging smoke – clean and fragrant.
  • You need tailored care: You have coloured, virgin, or damaged hair and want a product that adapts to its current condition.

Everything you should know before you start applying Onyx

The amount of Onyx applied always depends on length, density, damage level, and overall hair condition. Average consumption per application is about 50 ml.

For reference, here's an average estimate. Remember, the actual amount is determined by your hair's condition.

How Much Hair Onyx Will You Approximately Need?

  • If you sport a short original cut, it'll be about 30-50 ml
  • If you're the proud owner of shoulder-length hair, prepare about 40-60 ml
  • If you love your long hair that you can't get enough of, you'll need roughly 60-80 ml

Onyx is designed to be as gentle as possible to the hair. It cannot "burn" the hair, even if left on for a longer period.

To give you an idea, we provide an average consumption estimate below. However, please remember that the actual amount used is always determined by the condition of your hair.

IMPORTANT COLOR NOTICE: Please note that the application of the Onyx treatment may cause a change in your hair shade, by up to 1 tone. This color change is a natural characteristic of the product and results from its specific formula (the interaction of active ingredients with pigment and the application of high heat during flat ironing). A change in shade is not a product defect. If you dye your hair, we recommend doing so after the Onyx application (dyeing can be done after 1 - 2 weeks).

Safe Processing Time: The standard processing time is 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the hair condition.

Recommended Processing Times:

  • Colored/Chemically Treated: 20 min (gentle smoothing) to 60 min (full treatment and straightening).

  • Virgin (Natural) Hair: 50 minutes for maximum effect in a single step.

ONYX leaves hair beautifully soft, shiny, bouncy, and naturally straight – without weighing it down or chemical damage. It's completely free of formaldehyde, parabens, and sulphates, making it ideal even for sensitive scalps. Results last 4–6 months depending on hair type and aftercare.

If you're looking for top-tier hair care with maximum effect and minimum chemicals, CocoChoco ONYX is the right choice.

Introduction and Analysis

Before performing the procedure itself, a visual and tactile analysis of the hair condition is essential. The Onyx system is designed for hair in good to standard condition.

Contraindications: If the hair shows signs of extreme degradation due to aggressive lightening or improper chemical treatments, we do not recommend application.

Preparatory phase: For highly porous hair, it is advisable to first include a regenerative treatment (e.g. Cocochoco keratin mask) to restore the internal structure and elasticity. Only after the hair has stabilized should the straightening procedure be performed.

How to Apply COCOCHOCO Onyx

  1. 1. Preparation Phase: Deep Cleansing and Moisture Regulation - The foundation of success is the complete removal of styling product buildup and opening of the hair cuticle. Wash the hair twice in succession with Cocochoco cleansing shampoo. Drying: Blow-dry the hair to approximately 70%. This level of moisture is critical for proper product absorption. Specific approach: If the mid-lengths and ends are visibly weakened, leave these areas more damp (approx. 50–60%). In this case, water acts as a buffer that protects sensitive areas from excessive stress.
  2. 2. Product Application Methodology - Precision during application determines the final texture and shine. Divide the hair into four basic sections for maximum control. Work with very thin strands (approx. 1 cm). Apply the product with a brush at a distance of 0.5 to 1 cm from the scalp downward. Saturation balance: In areas where the hair is more damaged, apply slightly less product to avoid oversaturation. After application, comb through each strand with a fine comb. This removes excess emulsion and ensures that every hair is evenly coated.
  3. 3. Exposure Time and Activation Process - bDuring this phase, the active ingredients penetrate the hair cortex. Cover the hair with a hairdressing cap to create an optimal microclimate for the treatment.
    Processing time (30–60 minutes):
30 min: For fine, weakened hair or in cases where the goal is only natural smoothing and texture softening instead of a strictly straight effect.
60 min: For coarse, glassy, curly hair in excellent condition where the goal is a perfectly smooth and long-lasting result.
  4. 4. During exposure, regularly comb hair with a wide-tooth comb. Do not secure hair with clips or ties!
  5. 5. Rinsing - Rinse the product thoroughly with lukewarm water. Do not use shampoo at this stage. Use a towel for drying (ideally disposable), on which you can see whether a sufficient amount of excess product has been removed from the hair.
  6. 6. Final Drying - Blow-dry the hair to 100%. Use a flat ventilated brush so the hair is smooth and aligned before straightening.
  7. 7. Heat Sealing (The Key to Treatment Longevity) - vIn this phase, high temperature is used to fix the straightening bonds. Again, divide the hair into sections and work with strands 0.5 to 1 cm thick. It is important that the entire strand fits within the surface of the flat iron and does not slide over the edges.
    Individual temperature and intensity settings:
Fragile and chemically treated hair: 190–210 °C | 8–10 passes.
    Medium-thick hair in good condition: 210–220 °C | 12–14 passes.
Thick, resistant, and healthy hair: 220–230 °C | 14–16 passes.

Professional tip: If the roots are healthy and the ends are weak, gradually adjust the intensity — you can perform more passes or use a higher temperature at the roots, while reducing both at the ends. The flat iron movement must be smooth from roots to ends.
  8. 8. Stabilization and Post-Application Care - After finishing the straightening process, allow the hair to cool naturally for 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water until the hair no longer feels excessively slippery to the touch. For best results, prefer rinsing with clean water only. Apply Cocochoco sulfate-free conditioner, leave it on for 5–10 minutes, and then rinse. Dry and style the hair as desired. We recommend the first complete wash no sooner than 24 hours after the procedure.
  9. Long-Term Care - To maintain the effect, it is necessary to use Cocochoco home aftercare products (sulfate-free shampoos, conditioners, and serums), which are designed to complement and protect the Onyx layer.

Things not going to plan?

Maximum safety must be a priority during application. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately. If signs of an adverse reaction appear, stop using the product and wash it off your hair immediately. Always store the product in a suitable location, in a dry, cool place and out of the reach of children.
